our

Expectations

Volunteers at Reef Buddy Philippines come from all walks of life, but they share one thing: a genuine desire to protect the ocean. Whether you're a budding marine biologist, a gap-year adventurer, or just someone who cares deeply about nature, you're welcome here.

But let’s be clear—this isn’t a resort stay. Volunteering with us means rolling up your sleeves and diving into real conservation work. You’ll spend long days in the water, help out around base, and bunk in shared hotel rooms. Its not camping in the bush, but it is taking things seriously.

Key Considerations To Remember

Respecting Local Culture
Filipinos are famously warm and welcoming, and we ask all volunteers to return that respect. You're a guest in the Philippines, and just like you’d expect someone to behave in your home, we expect the same here. Upon arrival, you’ll be briefed on local customs and how to be a considerate visitor.

Social Life & Sensible Fun
We’re fine with a drink or two in the evenings, and there’ll be celebrations—divemaster graduations, fiestas, birthdays. But moderation is key. If you’re diving the next day, you need to be fit to dive. Loud, disruptive behaviour or anything that affects the safety or comfort of others isn’t tolerated.

Zero Tolerance Policy
Reef Buddy Philippines has a strict no-drugs, no-violence policy. Anyone who crosses that line will be asked to leave immediately. We also reserve the right to end a volunteer’s stay if their behaviour is offensive to others or the local community.

In short: bring your enthusiasm, your respect, and your willingness to learn. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories, new skills, and a deeper connection to the ocean.

Work Hard,

We know you've worked hard to get here—and you'll work hard while you're here too. Reef Buddy Philippines is about impact, but it's also about balance. Between dives and data sheets, there’s plenty of time to unwind: stretch out by the pool, sip a cold beer at the bar, or soak up the sun with your fellow volunteers. Conservation is serious work, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be seriously fun.

Whether it’s swapping stories around a campfire, joining a local fiesta, or just laughing over dinner after a long day underwater, you’ll find that downtime is part of the rhythm here. It’s not just about preserving reefs—it’s about building friendships, finding joy in the little things, and creating memories that last longer than your tan.

So yes, you’ll be challenged. But you’ll also be celebrated. We’ve got you covered—above and below the surface.
