VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 2026

"Amidst the hustle and bustle of our age, let us not forget the quiet crisis unfolding beneath the waves. The coral reefs, those ancient, vibrant cities of the sea, are facing unprecedented stress. It is our privilege and responsibility to be the custodians of these mesmerizing ecosystems, ensuring they thrive as a testament to the wonders of our planets biodiversity."

- Sir David Attenborough

Our Story:

From Carriacou to Dauin – The Next Chapter

Welcome to the Reef Buddy Initiative. We are a series of ecology and conservation-focused programs dedicated to protecting and restoring coral reef ecosystems through scientific research, active habitat restoration, and community engagement.

Originating in the Caribbean, we operate on a proven 'Trinity Model' of Research, Develop, and Transform . By utilizing the growing popularity of volunteer eco-tourism, we work alongside the local Dauin community to foster a shift from reef exploitation to reef guardianship. This approach turns passionate travelers into skilled reef ambassadors while creating sustainable local jobs, ensuring these vital ecosystems thrive for future generations.

What You Will Do: Our Four Workstreams

As a Reef Buddy volunteer in Dauin, you will get hands-on experience across four critical conservation workstreams:

  • Reef Monitoring & 3D Mapping: Learn to conduct vital underwater surveys using ReefCheck and CoralWatch protocols. You'll also help us utilize cutting-edge 3D photogrammetry to visually map and track the health of our local reefs over time.

  • Active Coral Regeneration: Get your hands wet in our dedicated coral nurseries. You will help cultivate and transplant resilient coral fragments directly to damaged reef areas immediately outside the Sierra Resort, alongside participating in systematic habitat cleaning.

  • Invasive Species Management: Help us protect the reef from destructive corallivores. Drawing on our team's experience managing severe invasive outbreaks in the Caribbean, you will actively monitor and remove threats to local coral health.

  • Apex Predator Monitoring: Discover what happens when we aren't blowing bubbles! You'll help deploy and analyze footage from Baited Remote Underwater Video Systems (BRUVS) to monitor the sharks, rays, and other apex predators crucial to Dauin's trophic balance.
